Stage 1, August 19: Nîmes – Nîmes, 13.7 km (TTT)

Start time for first team: 17:30
Trek-Segafredo start time: 18:54
Estimated time to complete course: 14 minutes

The opening stage of the 2017 Vuelta a España is a team trial out and back from the French city of Nîmes. With Alberto Contador wearing bib number 1, Trek-Segafredo will be the last team to leave the gate.

Starting at the famous Roman landmark, the Maison Carrée, and finishing at the Museum of Archaeology near the ancient arena, the technical route features a 2.4-km climb, the 3rd-category Alto de Nîmes.

The riders will encounter some 17 sharp turns over the 13.7-km test, many on city streets. The frequent turns and the absence of long straight sections will force changes of pace that could make it a challenge for powerhouse teams to gain a big advantage.
