Stage 5, August 23: Benicàssim – Alcossebre, 175.7 km

Start: 13:17
Finish: 17:28-17:54

The first summit-finish stage of this Vuelta is a legbreaker that includes five categorized climbs: three 2nd-category and two 3rd-category.

The final ascent to the Ermita Sta. Lucía is only categorized as 3rd category with 3.4 km of climbing at 4.2% average, but cyclotourism site Dándolo Todo paints a different picture. According to this source, riders can expect an average of 8% with sections of 16% and 18%.


Km 23.8 – Alto del Desierto de las Palmas: 2nd cat., 7.8 km at 4.8% avg.

Km 55.3 – Alto de Cabanes: 3rd cat., 7.3 km at 4.4% avg.

Km 87.6 – Coll de la Bandereta: 2nd cat., 4.6 km at 7.6%

Km 125.2 – Alto de la Serratella: 2nd cat., 13.2 km at 3.7% avg.

Km 175.7 – Ermita Sta. Lucía. Alcossebre: 3rd cat., 3.4 km at 4.2% avg.
