Stage 18, September 7: Suances – Santo Toribio de Liébana, 169 km

Neutral start: 12:55
Real racing: 13:14
Finish: 17:27-17:55

Today’s route borrows some 45 kilometers from an iconic Vuelta stage for Alberto Contador, the stage to Fuente Dé in the 2012 edition. Three climbs appear in rapid succession on the way to the final spike, the 3rd-category Alto de Santo Toribio de Liébana. The climbing begins with the Collada de Carmona at Km 104.7 (64.3 km from the finish), after which it’s up and down without respite until the end.

Km 109.5 – Collada de Carmona: 3rd cat., 4.8 km at 7.2% avg.

Km 126.0 – Collada de Ozalba: 3rd cat., 6 km at 6.6% avg.

Km 139.7 – Collada de la Hoz: 2nd cat., 7 km at 6% avg.

Km 169.0 – Alto de Santo Toribio de Liébana: 3rd cat., 3.2 km at 6.4% avg.
