Stage 5, Wednesday, August 22: Logroño-Logroño, 172 km (flat)

Stage 5 of La Vuelta is a circuit race, 168 flat kilometers that loop round and round Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, which has featured in the Vuelta 16 times. A sprint finish is almost certain, although after two grueling days in the mountains, who´s to say that the peloton won´t allow a fortune-seeker to make a name for himself?

The race will cross the finish line seven times, making this a big day for spectators along the road. Fans watching the race in front of their screens can help to pass the time by talking over the controversies of yesterday and the expectations for tomorrow´s uphill finish at Fuerte de Rapitán, which Contador reconned during the summer.

Sprint points today follow the pattern of Vuelta 2012, and are situated in the final third of the race, at Km 62.6 and Km 104.6, to make things more exciting.
