Stage 17, Wednesday, September 5: Santander – Fuente Dé, 177 km

Starting at the principal city of Cantabria, Santander (Saint Andrew), the race roughly traces the coast of the Cantabrian Sea until turning south to the summit finish on Fuente Dé in the Picos de Europa mountains. Fuente Dé lies opposite (southeast) to Lagos de Covadonga, across the Picos.

The day’s action begins at 12:28 PM.

Highlights:

An intermediate sprint is set for the approximate mid-point of the stage, at San Vicente de la Barquera, Km 90.4. It will be followed closely by the feed zone, in about half a kilometer.

The first of two KOM contests occurs on the 3rd-category Collado de Ozalba, Km 124.3 (climb starts at Km 118.4). The other takes place on the 2nd-category Collado La Hoz at Km 138 (climb starts at Km 132.3).

Another sprint at Km 164 paves the way for the final 17.3-km climb to the top of the 2nd-category Fuente Dé (at 1,088 meters), which begins at Km 170.
