Stage 16 is the queen stage of La Vuelta 2012. There are four categorized climbs, including three beasts concentrated in the last half of the course.

The final climb:
The hors categorie climb to the Valgrande/Pajares ski station and beyond, to the top of Cuitu Negru, is a massive 19.4 kilometer test starting at Km 164.1. The last 3 km average 17% slopes with a maximum of 22%. This section was paved for the first time just before this Vuelta, and as you can see in the episode of Pericopuertos devoted to Cuitu Negru (link below), some cyclists will be tempted, even with asphalt, to dismount and walk up the slope.
